John Raywood Broussard

Funeral Services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for John Raywood Broussard, 79, who passed away on August 25, 2013 at 3:04 pm. Reverend Jason Mouton, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Calvary Mausoleum. Mr. Broussard was the son of the late Gladu Broussard and the former Inez Boudreaux. He was born in Milton, LA, and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He served in the US Air Force, where he met his wife of 40 years, Juanita Vargas Broussard. He retired as Assistant Chief of the Lafayette Fire Department and was co-proprietor of Juanita's Mexican Restaurant with his wife. He loved life and was outgoing, loved telling Cajun jokes, dancing, fishing, camping, woodworking, watching western movies and being with family and friends. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by two sons, Robert Ray Broussard of Broussard, LA and Charles Steven Broussard of Cypress, TX; three daughters, Cynthia Ann Leger of Lafayette, LA, Katherine Gail Wixted of Spring, TX and Kathleen Dail Kienitz of Tucson, AZ; 18 grandchildren, Alexandra Rae Inez Broussard, James Edward Knight, Robert Ray Vargas Broussard, II, AnnMarie Ynez Broussard, JonTerez Antonia Broussard, John Norman Broussard, Charles Ryan Broussard, Sara Jayne Broussard Snider, Jared Seth Leger, Byron Claude Leger, Juanita Janie Maree Leger, Christie Marie Solar, Christopher Lee Wixted, James Michael Wixted, Douglas David Wixted, Jeffrey Bernard Wixted, Mark Anthony Matte and Michael James Matte; 12 great grandchildren; and four sisters, Gladys Menard, Anna Mae Vincent, Patsy Marks and Glenda Alleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Juanita Ann Vargas Broussard, two brothers, Gladu Broussard, Jr. and Clifford Broussard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours on Friday morning, before the funeral Mass, will be for family only. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
