Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers - Bertrand for Michael Joseph Hesse, 66, who passed away on August 4, 2023. Reverend Steve LeBlanc will conduct the funeral services. Michael Joseph Hesse, the oldest son of Dr. Robert and Marjorie Hesse, passed away on Friday August 4, 2023. Michael was born June 18, 1957 in Norfolk Virginia, the oldest of five children. Michael enjoyed attending school and appreciated the knowledge that his teachers provided for him. This led to Michael’s love for science and eventually computers. He was a member of the Chess Club, the Science Club, and the Orchestra, playing the violin from 5th grade through 12th grade. Michael loved photography, and took yearbook photos while attending Lafayette High School. He was a 1975 graduate of Lafayette Senior High School. In the summer of Michael’s Junior year, he was one of the 40 students across the nation selected to participate in a University National Science Foundation Program. Michael earned two degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana Lafayette). He developed a deep love for his religion while attending USL. He served as a lector at several Lafayette Catholic Churches. He was also a member of St. Jules Knights of Columbus. Michael taught Computer Science, and was a computer operator for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and retired from the City of Lafayette Government. Michael loved the American Space program; he followed the NASA missions throughout his life, enjoying the new discoveries and the technology developed from the space program. At one point Michael became friends with a couple of astronauts and a NASA Research Pilot. Michael was a proud uncle to thirteen nieces and nephews, and would take care and consideration in selecting individual Christmas and birthday gifts for them every year. His family would like to thank Renee and the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503. Michael Joseph, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Dr. Robert Anthony Hesse and the former Marjorie Dowdy. He is survived by his siblings, Steve Hesse and wife, Cheryl, James Hesse and wife, Lisa, Claire H. Judice and husband, Reggie, and John Hesse and wife, Rita; cousins, Donnie and Greg Hesse as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Chapel of the Flowers on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 8:00 AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM.
