Norma Ziel Truelove

Norma Ziel Truelove of Lafayette, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born August 16, 1935, in Santa Rosa, Florida. Norma spent much of her childhood years in Pensacola, Florida and graduated from Pensacola High School. She was married to Hershel Gene Truelove of Blue Ridge, Texas for almost 60 years prior to his death in 2016. Norma and Hershel resided in Lafayette, Louisiana for 57 years, since 1965. Norma was a registered nurse, receiving her bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and her hospital training at Baptist Hospital and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. After graduating in 1956, she returned to Pensacola to pursue her nursing career. Following her marriage to Hershel, they moved back to New Orleans and she returned to work at Baptist Hospital. Norma’s greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren. She and Hershel shared their love of God with their family and were a loving example of a Christian home. Norma discovered her love of art when she moved to New Orleans where she had the opportunity to study under several local art masters. Norma found a special joy in seeing the beauty of God's world come to life on her canvas. She specialized in landscapes, seascapes and local Louisiana architecture. Through the years, she was commissioned for paintings that featured the homes and properties of local and national customers. She was associated with galleries in New Orleans and Houston and she also shared galleries for many years with the Artists of Acadiana. Norma and her family were always active in the church. As a matter of fact, it was at the First Baptist Church of New Orleans where she met the love of her life, Hershel. In addition, Norma served in and held leadership roles in numerous organizations that supported the educational and school activities of their three children. Norma was also a member of the Chez Amis Women's Club and the Lafayette Art Association. Norma is survived by her son, Brian Truelove and wife Dana, of Ingram, Texas; daughter Deborah Truelove Busby and husband Randy, of Clear Lake Shores, Texas and daughter Denise Truelove Bishop and husband John, of College Station, Texas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren - Matthew Truelove and wife Kaitlin, Andrew Truelove, John Truelove, James Truelove and wife Annabelle, Alisa Truelove, Collin Busby, Daniel Busby, Danielle Bishop Pharr and husband Tyler and Nicholas Bishop and wife Courtney; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Pharr and another expected any day. Norma is also survived by one brother, Ken Ziel of Pensacola, Florida and his wife Nettie. Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hershel; parents Edward T. Ziel and Evelyn Walline Ziel of Pensacola, Florida; and one brother, Ted Ziel, also of Pensacola, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2022 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers with Pastor Scott McKenzie, Minister of Education at First Baptist of Lafayette, officiating the funeral services. Visitation will be held at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Pallbearers will be all of her grandsons. Burial will be at Fountain Memorial Cemetery, immediately following the service. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Acadiana and Acadiana Animal Aid.
