Olive Arcadia Breazeale

A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. Mary Mother of the Church for Olive Arcadia Breazeale, 97, who passed away on March 21, 2023. Reverend Cedric Sonnier, Pastor, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. "Sweet Olive "grew up in New Iberia, Louisiana, the daughter of a mother with Cajun French and German heritage, and a Sicilian immigrant father, with four siblings. She attended Mt Carmel grade and high school, with wonderful memories of her childhood. After graduating at the age of 16 yo, Olive was an adventurer for the times. She, along with friends, worked as a secretary for the MW Kellog Co, first in Lake Charles, La. and then in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she unknowingly contributed to the development of the atomic bomb "Little Boy" The company again moved to Philadelphia. In 1945, Olive moved back to New Iberia to assist her parents during a difficult time. Her compassion was rewarded with meeting the love of her life, Wood Breazeale Jr. They were married three years later, Olive at the age of 21yo, and her "Honey Boy" at the age of 19yo!!! They were blessed with 67 years of a loving marriage. Olive assisted Wood for years in the development of their newly established Oil & Gas business, while simultaneously growing and nurturing her family with "Honey Boy" and their four children. Olive and Wood enjoyed companionship in many ways. Their favorite shared interest for many years was the game of golf, and their friendships with many at Oakbourne Country Club where "Sweet Olive " reigns as the Grande Dame. "Sweet Olive" possessed a gentle spirit and loving and generous nature. She was a true strong Southern lady of charm, elegance, full of fun and a wit quicker than none. Olive had the gift of putting everyone at ease in her presence, had an attentive ear, with lots of wisdom to share. Olive maintained a heart full of gratitude for her life, family, friends and for those that cared. Her smile and laugh will be remembered and missed by many. " Love You Longer and Stronger” … and FOREVER. Olive, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Louis Vincent Drago and the former Aurelie Oubre. She is survived by her children, Roanne Dueitt and husband, Jerry, Valerie Breazeale, Wood A. Breazeale, III and wife, Sue, and Beryl Breazeale; grandchildren, Olivia Truong, Joseph Landes, Desiree Staires, Chelsea Sun, Brittany Staires, Ben Breazeale, Brooke Moodley, Dillon Beaullieu, and Lauren Beaullieu; great grandchildren, Isaac, Josiah, Ruth, and Olive Landes, Calla and Margot Sun, Ronnie and Azalea Moodley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wood A. Breazeale, Jr.; siblings, Simon Drago, Cyril Drago, Frances Talley, and Grace Lane. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary Mother of the Church on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Myron Lane, Jerome Lane, Joseph Landes, Ben Breazeale, Dillon Beaullieu, C.B. Talley, and Sam Moss. Honorary pallbearer will be Grayson Lane.
