Pegi Lagroue Derby

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday October 21, 2017 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Peggy Louise Lagroue Derby, affectionately known as Pegi, who passed away surrounded by loved ones at her residence on September 30, 2017. Inurnment will take place in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection at Calvary Cemetery. Pegi was the daughter of the late Harold Joseph Lagroue Jr. and the former Alice Evelyn Fogleman. A native of Lafayette, Pegi attended Our Lady of Fatima School and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, receiving the Grand Prix in Art during her senior year. A member of the class of 1965, she remained close friends with her classmates throughout her life. Pegi was presented as a maid in Les Brigands de Lafitte and the Krewe of Gabriel. She attended LSU and USL, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After living with her family in Colorado Springs, Pensacola and New Orleans, Pegi settled back in Lafayette. She returned to school at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. While at UL, Pegi was awarded a Study Abroad Scholarship to study art in Paris. Throughout her life, Pegi worked on many creative and artistic endeavors. Her artwork – paintings, drawings, ceramics and painted furniture – adorns many Acadiana homes. For ten years, Pegi was a partner in Galerie Eclaireuse downtown. She enjoyed participating in Art Walk and teaching art at her gallery to many young artists, including her grandsons. Pegi’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, laughing and enjoying life. She is survived by her daughter, Bess Derby Foret and husband Michael; grandchildren, Samuel and Connor Foret; sister, Eileen Knight and husband John; brother, Harold Lagroue III and wife Beverly; devoted nephews Stuart and André Breaux; brother-in-law, Roy Raoul Breaux; and many other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Lagroue Breaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph E. Brierre and his staff, Dr. Jason Schumadine and his staff, Community Hospice, her caregivers, and especially her multitude of friends who did so much to aid and comfort Pegi and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pegi’s honor to local hospice organizations or the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau.
