Alfred J. Bonin

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 19, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Alfred J. Bonin, who passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette. Rev. Keith Derouen, Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Mr. Bonin, the son of the late Adolph Bonin and the former Nita Simoneaux, was a native of Kaplan, La and a resident of Lafayette for the past 45 years. He was a veteran of the military having served in the Navy. He was a graduate of U.S.L. He was currently owner of Culligan Water for 25 years. He was very dedicated to serving the water industry of Acadiana and received the Culligan International Circle of Excellence Award. He loved working in his business everyday, it was his hobby as well as his profession. Mr. Bonin was former President of American Legion in Kaplan, La. Mr. Bonin was formerly employed by LA Frey & Sons for 21 years. He was instrumental in creating LA Frey & Sons Credit Union & a member of the State Board of Credit Unions. He was a former member of the Optimist Club and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Bayou Vermilion District. Survivors include his devoted wife of 52 years, Tommye Wilson Bonin; two children, Tammy Bonin Soileau and husband, Scott of Crowley, and Traci Bonin Rachou and husband, David of Lafayette; two sisters, Lavonne Landry and Nona Primeaux, both of Kaplan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph Bonin and Nita Simoneaux Bonin. The family would like to thank his doctors; and the staff of the 4th floor at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for their years of support. Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be John Montesano, Carroll Mouton, Jason Benoit, David Rachou, Scott Soileau, and Jo-Jo Pere. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Simon, Duffy Marceaux, Dalton Primeaux, Clarence Landry, and Joe Haik, Jr. Personal condolences may be sent to the Bonin family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
