Allan James Duplantis

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Broussard, Louisiana on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 2 PM to celebrate the life of Allan James "Cheese" Duplantis who passed away comfortably and peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at age 70. Interment will follow immediately after in the Mausoleum of Sacred Heart Cemetery. Allan was born January 18, 1945 in Saint Martinville, LA. He was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Saint Martinville High School in 1963 and attended and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He joined the Air Force in December 1968. Allan married the love of his life, the former Regina Lewis of Broussard on Flag Day in June of 1969. In the Air Force, Allan proudly served his country as a navigator on B-52s and flew over 100 combat missions over North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, including one on the night in 1971 when his only child, Andrew, was born during hurricane Edith back in Lafayette. After being honorably discharged as a captain and released from active duty on his wife's birthday on September 21, 1973, he returned to Louisiana and went to work as an accountant at University Medical Center in Lafayette. Within a few years he became a legislative auditor for the state of Louisiana. For the last nearly 20 years of his career, he was the internal auditor at USL (and then ULL) where, aside from striking fear in the staff and departments because of his unflinching integrity and spot-on, by-the-book auditing, (which earned him the unofficial nickname, "The Infernal Auditor") he was also beloved by scores, and possibly hundreds, of students whom he helped locate and receive grants and scholarships that were due to them, sometimes months or even years after they had unsuccessfully tried to acquire them by themselves. Allan loved his job and the people of ULL, but begrudgingly retired in 2011 as the effects of his oncoming dementia no longer allowed him to do his job with the precision and level of excellence that he had always performed at. Allan was also an active member of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Regina Lewis "Jeanie" Duplantis of Youngsville; his beloved son, Andrew Michael Duplantis and "apple of his eye" grandson, Jack Lucien Duplantis of Austin Texas; his brother, Homer Duplantis Jr. and sister, Judy Carnahan-Webb, both of Houston, Texas; dozens of nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends and neighbors who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Duplantis of St. Martinville and Henrietta Mouton Duplantis of Parks; sisters, Florence Romero of New Iberia and Genevieve Lasseigne of Catahoula; and brother, John Emery Duplantis of New Iberia.
