Allen Gerard

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. Anne Catholic Church of Youngsville for Allen Gerard, 85, who passed away peacefully on November 17, 2017 surrounded by his family. Deacon Art Bakeler will conduct the funeral service. Inurnment will take place in the St. Anne Mausoleum. Mr. Allen, a native of Youngsville and resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Ix Gerard and the former Noemie Breaux. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Allen was employed by CF Bean Dredging Company. He was the Captain of the Marine Vessel – The Dredge Dave Blackburn. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially gardening, riding his tractor and tending to his family property. Mr. Allen was a wonderful cook and loved Cajun cuisine. He took an interest in the stock market, loved animals and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. However his greatest passion was the time spent taking care of his grandchildren. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertha Poirier Gerard; children, Felecia Gumpert and husband Paul, Mitchell "Mitch" Gerard and wife Lori; grandchildren, Christopher Kesel, Erica Kesel LeBlanc and husband Sean, Allison Gerard; great grandson, Logan LeBlanc; brother, Sidney Gerard. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cleveland Gerard, Norris Gerard, Willis Gerard and Eugene Gerard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mitchell "Mitch" Gerard, Sidney Gerard, Christopher Kesel, Paul Gumpert, Sean LeBlanc, Eddie Gerard, Arnold Taussin and George Harris. The family would like to thank Mr. Allen's caregivers, Carol Scott, Bonnie Barbier, Tenille Scott, Erica Fontenot and Janet Vincent. Expression of gratitude would also like to be made to Cornerstone Village South and Hospice of Acadiana for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donation in Mr. Gerard's honor can be made to St. Anne Catholic Church or St. Jules Catholic Church for Mass dedications.
