Alonzo Lee Nugent

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Sunday, June 25, 2006 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Alonzo Lee Nugent, Jr., 84, who died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at his residence. Rev. Ira Robinson, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be held Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery in Indian Bayou, LA. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM at the cemetery. Mr. Nugent was the son of the late Alonzo Lee Nugent, Sr., and the late Essie Deare, both of Eola, LA. He was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High School. Mr. Nugent entered the Military service November 1940 with the 31st Division LA National Guard and was sent to Camp Blanding, FL. He served at Charleston, SC on guard duty after Pearl Harbor. He went to OCS Ft. Benning in July 1942. He was assigned to the 103rd Division Camp Claiborne, LA and then to the 65th Division July 1943. He went overseas with Co. E, 259th Infantry as Company Commander. He participated in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. He will never forget March 18, 1945 in Saarlautern; half of his officers and one fourth of his men were killed or wounded. He received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star Medals. He was transferred to the 39th Infantry 9th Division near Berchasgarden and back home in December 1945. He was discharged December 1945 with the rank of Captain. He retired from the National Supply Division of Armco Steel in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Diane Foreman Nugent; three daughters, Donna Clements and husband Joseph of Kingwood, TX, Jennifer Person and husband Steve of Prairieville, LA, and Danell Bailey and husband Gary of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren, Erin Sette and husband Jason of Kingwood, TX, Emily McHugh and husband Ryan of Houston, TX, Casey Person and wife Jory of Prairieville, LA, Mitch Person of Prairieville, LA, and Alex and Madeline Bailey of Panama City, FL; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Jack Sette both of Kingwood, TX; two sisters, Virginia Yandle and Ruth Boudreaux, both of New Iberia, LA; one brother, Oliver Nugent and wife Iris of New Iberia, LA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Eddie Nugent. Visiting hours will be observed Saturday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will continue Sunday at 10:00 AM until the time of services. Pallbearers will include Joseph Clements, Steve Person, Gary Bailey, Casey Person and Mitch Person. Honorary Pallbearer will be Sonny Fricke.
