Audrey Fuqua

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 9, 2022, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Audrey Mae Fuqua, 91, born on September 19, 1930, who passed away on September 4, 2022, at Hospice of Acadiana, Calcutta House. Brother Luther Burney, of First Baptist Church of Lafayette will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Fuqua, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Walter Hernandez and the former Wilma Babineaux Landry. Audrey was a native of Lafayette. Audrey married her beloved husband, Cleve, and they were married for 44 years. Audrey’s greatest joy in life was her family. Audrey was always proud of their accomplishments. While raising her three sons, Audrey worked as a telephone operator for a local answering service, going to work before dawn to allow her to be at home when her children returned from school. Audrey later worked as a receptionist for Hub City Bank and Hibernia Bank, as well as Mangham and Hardy Law Firm. Audrey was a wonderful cook and loved sharing her love of cooking for her family and friends. Audrey was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved by all that met her. Though she will live in our hearts, she will be greatly missed. Audrey was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Milton C. Fuqua, Jr., (Dawn) and Bryan J. Fuqua (Jana); grandchildren, Brittany F. Matthieu (Ryan), Allison F. Roy (Justin), and Christopher E. Fuqua; great-grandchildren, Payton, Zander, Zye, and Emersyn; and her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" H. Duhon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton C. “Cleve” Fuqua, Sr., her mother, Wilma Landry, and adoptive father, Michel Landry; her father, Walter Hernandez; and son, Patrick Wayne Fuqua. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Christopher Fuqua, Payton Simon, Justin Roy, Ryan Matthieu, Jerome “Chummy” Bourque, and Dennis Foret. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Romero, Dean Schexnayder, and Johnny Melancon.
