A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 7, 2016 in The Cathedral of St John the Evangelist at 1:30 pm for Audrey Bernard Menard who passed away peacefully at 10:00 pm on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Broussard LA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Delhomme Funeral home from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 pm. Audrey, or “Toots” as she was affectionately known by her son-in-laws, was born in Broussard, Louisiana on January 5, 1929. She married her husband Jay Menard and dedicated her life to being a wife and raising her five children. She made homemaking an art form. She was exceedingly selfless, always putting others before herself and was abundantly generous with her guidance, her time, and her comforting love and support. She was a master chef, preparing Sunday meals for her large family and always enjoyed the laughter and the company. She was meticulous and talented, creating beautiful quilts, linens, and dresses that will be cherished by her family. She was full of life, loved music and dancing, and possessed a strong humorous spirit. She was also incredibly pious and devoted to her faith. She will be dearly missed by all of her family who will always treasure their many memories with her. Pallbearers will be her eight grandsons, Jason Anthony Breaux M.D., Jeffery Michael Landry, Marc Anthony Comeaux, Jacob Andre Menard, Cain Warner Menard, Paul Joseph Dominique II, Hayden John Dominique, and Evan Hayes Dominique. Honorary pallbearers include Humberto Izquierdo, Theodore “Ted” Bernard, and M.P. Dumesnil, Don Menard, Bobby Caffey, and Huey Speyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Menard; her parents, Bill and Hilta Bernard, and her siblings, Flo Dumesnil and Helen Caffey. Survivors include her brother, Theodore “Ted” Bernard and her five children; Diane Menard Gossen and her husband Jim, Carolyn Menard Breaux and her husband Paul, Yvette Menard, Mary Menard Dominique and her husband John, and Jay Andre Menard and his wife Maria. And she also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren who were all very close to their Mae Maw. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given by her physicians Dr. Gene Brierre, Dr. Stephen Salopek, Dr. John Mickey and all of her caregivers at Lafayette General Medical Center.
