Barbara G. Blanchard

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 16, 2009 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Barbara G. 'Bobbie' Blanchard, 68, who passed away on January 13, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Jerry Mesley, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. Bobbie, a native of Lafayette and a resident of Ridge, Louisiana, was the daughter of the late Clares Guidry and the late Odele Guilbeau Guidry. She graduated from T.H. Harris Technical School as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1974 and then graduated in 1981 from Louisiana State University at Eunice with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She then furthered her education in medicine becoming one of the first Board Certified Nurse Practioner's in the State of Louisiana in 1985 from Georgia Southern University. In 1995 she completed Clininical Nurse Practitioner II: Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics from USL. She was a very giving person who touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with. She also enjoyed teaching her nursing skills to her students and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by the father of her children, John T. Blanchard; her daughter, Odele B. Bertrand and her husband, Brent; grandchildren, Bart J. Bertrand and Deana Sargent, and Blaine M. Bertrand; one great-grandchild, Callie; one sister, Sheryl Vise and her husband, Sam; two nieces, Racheal and Megan; one nephew, Shane, and her favorite canine friend, Heidi. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Blanchard and one brother, Ronald Guidry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and will continue at 8:00 am Friday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Brent Bertrand, Bart J. Bertrand, Blaine Bertrand, Bart A. Bertrand, Sam Vise and Dustin Bertrand. The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone with Louisiana Oncology in Lafayette; to Dr. Briere and his staff; the Lafayette General Medical Center Oncology floor; the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Hospice of Acadiana, and a very special thank you to Lorraine Boudreaux, Bart and Cindi Bertrand.
