Bert Joseph Daigle

Funeral services will be at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of Scott for Bert Joseph Daigle, age 90, who passed away May 7, 2006 at his residence in Scott, LA. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota, La. Rev. Gilbert Dutel, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott will be celebrant of the mass and conduct the services. Mr. Daigle, the son of the late Ernest Daigle and the former Marie Miller, was a native of Iota and resided in Scott. He was a veteran of the military, having served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII. He owned and operated a John Deere dealership in Iota. Mr. Daigle belonged to the American Legion of Iota, and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott. He was a spiritual man and wonderful husband, father, grand and great-grand father. Every day he lived for his family. His tireless devotion to personally caring for his wife until his recent illness was both inspirational and the finest demonstration of the depth of his character. During his career he set countless sales records with John Deere and served Acadiana area farmers for many years. He loved to travel and introduced his children to a larger world on family vacations. Although never having the opportunity to complete his college studies, he made certain all five children obtained college degrees, and most of them, additional advanced degrees. Survivors include his wife, Ruth LeJeune Daigle of Scott, two daughters, Sandra Burton and husband, Wayne, of Scott, and Susan Daigle Strother and husband, David of Lafayette; two sons, Mike Daigle and wife, Susan, of St. Charles, Missouri, Steve Daigle and wife, Ada, of Scott, and daughter-in-law, Johnette Daigle of Lafayette; sixteen grandchildren, Dayne Daigle, Duke Daigle, Darla Hebert, Cheramie Burgess, Shannon Daigle, Annie Blazer, Jessie Schwietermann, David Burton, Julie Burton, Matthew Daigle, Russ Brown, Austin Strother, Caroline Strother, Stephen Burke, Brandon Burke, and Cindy Burke; six great grandchildren, Abigayle Daigle, Keeley Burgess, Laurel Burgess, Shelby Schwietermann, Lizzie Schwietermann, and Brody Blazer; and one sister, Marjorie Guillory of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Douglas J. Daigle, one brother and six sisters. The family wishes to give special thanks to Jane Venable, Dr Darrin Menard, and Hospice of Acadiana. Visiting hours will be observed on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will recited at 5:00 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Duke Daigle, Dayne Daigle, Shannnon Daigle, Matthew Daigle, David Burton, David Strother, Wayne Burton, and Russ Brown. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Bert Joseph Daigle to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School Fund, or Hospice of Acadiana.
