Beth Martha Guilbeaux

Beth Martha Hansen Guilbeaux, 67, died peacefully in her home on October 19, 2016, surrounded by her family and loving friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Le Pavillon in Parc Lafayette from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm. She was born on August 6, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1967 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from the University of Louisiana in 1971. Beth taught elementary school and dedicated many years to raising her three daughters. She began her second career in copier sales with Copy and Camera, Inc. and retired as general manager of the company. She was selected as a member of Leadership Lafayette and served as a board member, Board President and interim Executive Director of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. She performed regularly with the Lafayette Concert Band and Acadian Wind Symphony as principal flutist. Beth was a life-long member of the Sigma Alpha Iota Alumni Chapter and served as President of the Friends of Music Acadiana, where she helped raise thousands of dollars for deserving music students at UL. She was an active member of Sans Souci and the Krewe of Victoria. She was a strong advocate for women’s rights throughout her adult life, and relished the opportunity to be able to vote early for the first woman president of the United States. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Guilbeaux; daughters, Amy (Michael) O’Quain, Lynn (Luke) Bone of Austin, TX, and Chrissy (Mark) Thompson; grandchildren, Carly O’Quain, Cameryn O’Quain, Luke Bone, IV, Lily Bone, Addison Thompson, Mark Thompson, II, and Henry Thompson; sisters, Laurel Lewellen and Julie Hansen (Robbie) Bush; brother, Mark (Rose Mary) Hansen; and five nieces, five nephews, six great nieces, and nine great nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Donald and Barbara Hansen, and brother, Dana Hansen. Her family would like to thank the nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center for their care and compassion during her two extended hospital stays and Heart of Hospice for their guidance and support. They would also like to acknowledge and give special thanks to her doctors, Mitchell Dugas, MD, Karen Roden, MD, Vitalis Okechukwu, MD and Jessica Boudreaux, PA. In lieu of flowers, the Beth Hansen Guilbeaux Flute Scholarship has been established for those wishing to contribute.
