Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at First Baptist Church for Bobbie Ruth Smith, 76, who passed away on October 26, 2021 at Garden View Assisted Living. Brother Luther Burney, of First Baptist Church - Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Calvary Mausoleum. Ms. Smith, a resident of Lafayette, La, was the daughter of the late Alvin “Frazz” Smith of Jennings and the former Pat Treadway of Natchitoches. She was born in Jennings and moved to Lafayette at a young age. She graduated from Lafayette High School and then graduated from Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School in Baton Rouge. Bobbie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, caregiver and friend. Bobbie began her first career as an Orthopedic Nurse in Nashville, Tennessee. After returning home to Lafayette, she spent several years as a Legal Secretary. She found her true passion when she entered the real estate field in 1985. She was a member of the Lafayette Board of Realtors, CCIM, ICSC and Catylist. She spent a few years selling residential but found her true calling within the commercial department, specializing in office and warehouse properties. She was one of the first women selling commercial real estate in a male dominated industry. As a family member and stockholder of Acadiana Bottling Company, she represented the company in all of their real estate transactions. She also represented Walmart and St. Pius Catholic Church. She retired as an agent/broker with Beau Box Commercial Real Estate in Lafayette. Bobbie loved traveling with friends, fishing, and spending time with her dogs. She had Yorkies for many years, but most recently a rescue Chihuahua mix, Buddy, and a Terrier mix, Daisy Mae. She loved animals and nature, and spent afternoons sitting on her patio with a glass of wine, enjoying her flowers and watching hummingbirds. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow into adults. Although she did not get to meet her great-granddaughter, Ellie, whom arrives on Friday, we know she will love watching her from heaven. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Harper Dugas (Keith); son, Mark Baker (Jennifer); grandson, Tyler Harper; granddaughter, Emily H. Moorman (Dylan); great-granddaughter, Ellie Moorman; step-grandson, Kalun Dugas; step-granddaughter, Gabrie Dugas (Patty), step-great-grandchildren, Isabella and Khalel; brothers, Dennis Smith (Mary) and Dale Smith (Felicia); a host of nieces and nephews; and canine companions, "Buddy" and "Daisy". She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Pat Smith; brother, Larry Smith; and sister-in-law, Sandra Kay Harrison Smith. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at First Baptist Church - Downtown on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 10:00AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Tyler Harper, Dylan Moorman, Dennis Smith, Dale Smith, Jason Smith, and Kalun Dugas. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Garden View Assisted Living for their love and compassion given to our mother, as well as the wonderful caregivers who served and loved her to the end. They were truly our angels. We would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana.
