Carita Moss Kimbrough

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church for Carita Moss Kimbrough, 82, who passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at Maison de Lafayette. Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Music for the Mass will be sung by organist, Joanie Hamilton, and will include 'On Eagles Wings', 'Be With Me Lord', 'Ave Maria', 'Thy Will Be Done' and 'Soon Very Soon'. Carita, the daughter of the late James Joseph Moss, Sr. and the former Elizadie Broussard, both of Lafayette, was a native and resident of Lafayette. She was a homemaker and life long resident of Lafayette. She passed from this life on Monday, March 10, 2008 at Maison de Lafayette. Her life was devoted to caring for family and others, never putting herself first and always pleased to have had the opportunity to help. She had a great love for music and dancing, both of which filled her later years with much pleasure. Holidays were always a special joy. For decades, she carried on her father's Christmas tradition by building a huge tree surrounding a cr'che her father had built, tending to every detail just as her father had done in her youth and so delighting everyone who had the opportunity to see the display. The simple beauty of the tradition was featured in The Advertiser several times over the years. From a heart filled with unconditional love, visits with grandchildren and great grandchildren were definitely a special time for her to share. Whether taking out on a pirate expedition with her grandson or simply enjoying a tea party with her great granddaughter, Carita made certain every moment she spent with family members was remarkably memorable and creatively enjoyable. Carita's children would like to express their thanks to her loving sisters Marcella 'Mama' and Phyllis for their care and devotion during her recent illness. Survivors include her daughter, Maureen Kimbrough Broussard of Lafayette; two sons, John 'Jay' Kimbrough and wife, Belinda of Lafayette, and Matt Kimbrough and wife, Rene of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Brian C. Landry, Brandon, Holly, Joseph, and Julia Kimbrough; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Branch, Hunter and Courtney Landry; two sisters, Marcella Baliles of Lafayette,Phyllis Goff of Lafayette; and three sisters-in-law, Rose Moss, Margie Moss, and Joyce Moss. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris M. 'Mel' Kimbrough; two sisters, Doris Hartup, Leticia Destefano; and four brothers, Russell Moss, James J. Moss, Jr., Robert E. Moss, and John L. Moss. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carita's name to St. Mary Catholic Church Choir at 419 Doucet Road, Lafayette, Louisiana, De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana or to the charity of individual choice.
