Carla Leigh Gray

Devoted Mother and Loyal Friend Lafayette ' Carla Weldon Gray, died February 3, 2007. Born July 25, 1954 in the Azores Islands, Portugal while her father was an instructor at the Air Force base. She and her parents moved to Louisiana later that same year. She was a graduate of Tara High School and LSU. On September 22, 1973, she met John Gray at an LSU vs. Texas A&M football game and one month later on October 25th, he proposed. They were married on April 12, 1974 and remained happily married for 33 years. John and Carla moved to Lafayette in the spring of 1979 and that same year, she began working at the Lafayette Social Security Office. She worked there for 25 years. Carla was a devoted mother of three, wife, and daughter; as well as a loyal friend who had a gift of making everyone she met feel special and comfortable in her presence. She was an avid dog lover with passions for sewing, cooking, creating beautiful floral arrangements, and playing the piano. She will be missed very much by her husband, John Gray of Lafayette, LA; two sons, John Gray, Jr. with his fianc', Rachel Caldwell, of Houston, TX, and George Gray, III of Natchitoches, LA; one daughter, Melinda Parrie with her husband, Joseph G. Parrie, II of Natchitoches, LA; two grandchildren, Laurynn Caldwell of Houston, TX and Joseph G. Parrie, III of Blanchard, LA; her mother, Peggy Weldon of Baton Rouge, LA; two brothers, Charles Weldon with his wife, Brenda of Baton Rouge, LA and Wray Weldon with his wife, Dorothy of Rowlett, TX; one sister, Nora Carles with her husband, William of Coral Springs, FL; and many well-loved friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Simeon Weldon of Baton Rouge, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to The Animal Rescue Foundation, 1011 Rue Bois de Chene, Breaux Bridge, LA 70517, The Humane Society, P.O. Drawer C, Sunset, LA 70584, Lafayette Animal Aid, P.O. Box 298, Carencro, LA 70520 or charity of your choice. The memorial service will be held at 9:00 am Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers with Paul Murphy officiating. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service. A graveside service will take place at Forest Park Cemetery East, Shreveport, LA on Wednesday at 4:00 pm with Rev. Donald Holloway officiating.
