Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers - Bertrand for Catherine Jean DeValcourt, 73, who passed away on April 20, 2023. Catherine Jean DeValcourt was born August 8, 1947, in Borger, Texas. Cathy was the oldest child born to Jean Walton and Emma Elizabeth Moser. Known as the “miracle baby”, Cathy was born with cancer of the liver and acknowledged as being one of the first babies cured of cancer in the US. What a blessed and exceptional life she lived! Cathy lived her childhood overseas with her parents and two younger sisters. After graduating high school from Cairo, Egypt, Cathy came stateside to Lafayette to attend the University of Southwest Louisiana. She met the love of her life Ira William “Bill” DeValcourt and married in 1971. Bill and Cathy shared 52 Years of life together and had two beautiful children, Dane Lester and Dawn Elizabeth. She loved reading and in her spare time, you could always find her with a book in hand and her glass of iced tea. Cathy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who truly adored her family; especially her grandchildren. Classy, elegant, intelligent, and giving are only a few of the words that bring Catherine DeValcourt to mind. Cathy passed away surrounded by the family on April 20, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Walton Moser and Emma Elizabeth (Cox) Moser; one niece, Wendy Burleigh; and two brother in laws, Larry Wilson and Raymond Burleigh. Survivors include her husband, Ira William “Bill” DeValcourt; one son, Dane DeValcourt; one daughter, Dawn Knight and her husband, Denny; four grandchildren, Brooke DeValcourt, Kennadi Knight, Kiptyn Knight and Grace DeValcourt; two sisters, Deborah Burleigh and Tracy Wilson; four nieces, Kristie Burleigh, Stacy Schultz and husband Eric, Elizabeth Wilson and Jean Burleigh, one nephew, Jack Burleigh; two great nephews, Jonathan Burleigh and Joshua Burleigh; and one great niece, Kylie Burleigh. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Saturday, April 29, 2023, beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
