Charles Clifford Cross

A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles Clifford Cross will be held Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Community Baptist Church in Lafayette. Charles, 78, passed away on Sunday morning, December 30, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. He is now at home with his Lord, free of pain and suffering. Reverend Tom Lambert, Pastor of Community Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Cross was born on June 20, 1929 to the late Clifford and Elizabeth Cross. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He graduated from Lamar State University, earning a degree in Geology. He married his wife, Jo Ellen, in May of 1954 and they moved to Lafayette and made their home. Mr. Cross retired after many years as an oilfield salesman. Mr. Cross was a member of Community Baptist Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was also a long-standing member of the Acadiana Amateur Radio Association having served as president. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ellen Gaston Cross; one daughter, Candace Jo Cross Greene and her husband, Bob Greene of Lafayette; one son, Charles 'Charlie' Joseph Cross and his wife, Marti Cross of Menasha, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Bradford Scott Hardy and his wife, Amber Cohorn Hardy, Blake G. Hardy, Meagan E. Greene, and Lindsay M. 'Shelley' Greene, all of Lafayette. Mr. Cross was deeply devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He was most proud of his four wonderful grandchildren whom he adored. He will be dearly missed by all who knew of his kind and generous spirit. In keeping with his willingness to help others, Charles donated his body to the LSU School of Medicine in hopes of benefiting future medical students. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bobby Cross, all residents of Kilgore, Texas.
