Funeral Services will be held at a 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at St. Mary Mother of the Church in Lafayette for Christian Shay Nelson, who passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:40 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, in Lafayette, LA Reverend Neil McNeill, cousin of Christian and Pastor of St. John the Evangelist in Mermentau, Louisiana and Reverend Mr. Phil Lizotte will conduct the services. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, Louisiana. Christian, a resident of Rayne, LA just completed his first year of college. Christian had a love of football and passion for music. The sound of his guitar accompanied by his sweet melodic voice will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Christian's brother, Cameron, and sister, Caroline, looked up to their "Bubba" not only as the best big brother in the world but also as their friend, role model, and hero. Christian was known for his easy going way and his deep love of and dedication to his friends. Anyone who knew Christian knew that he always put the needs and desires of others before himself. This was exemplified even in his death when he donated his organs to give life to others. He is survived by his parents, Jenn and Hans; his siblings, Cameron and Caroline; his maternal grandparents Patricia and Chester Landry, Jr., paternal grandmother, Dale Nelson; his grandparents Thomas and Diane Dykes; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home 1011 Bertrand Dr. on Monday, June 3, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life and Tribute to Christian at 7:00 pm. Visitation will end at 8:00 p.m. and resume on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Christian's cousin, Thomas Gonzales, and closest friends Brenn Conrad, Tommy Jackson, Sam Mestayer, Stephen Morella, Josh Tharp, Andrew Bull, Logan Moreau and Carlos Toca will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
