Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 in First United Methodist Church - Lafayette for Diana Barry, 82, who passed away on November 25, 2024. A cherished soul who graced this world with her presence and left a mark on all who knew her. Diana embraced life with a fervor that was truly infectious. Reverend Nancy Wofford, Pastor First United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Diana, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Walter L. Skaggs and the former May Buteaux. Diana grew up in Louisiana and graduated from Franklin High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree at USL in Lafayette, LA, then her Master's in Education at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS. Diana excelled academically achieving a remarkable 4.0 GPA throughout her studies. She taught school and was a student Counselor in Lafayette Parish for 30+ years until retirement to take care of her beloved husband who passed in 2009. Diana was a dedicated wife, sister, and mother to her two daughters, especially caring for her special-needs daughter all of her life. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a long standing, active member of the ADK collegiate sorority for many years as well. Throughout her life, Diana's greatest joys were derived from the love she had for her children, sister, nieces, nephews, friends, church congregation, ADK sorority sisters, and all the children she taught. Her family meant everything to her, and she poured boundless affection in to every moment spent with them. Diana took great joy in cooking and baking for her loved ones, sharing those delicious meals made with love. She also had a passion for reading, often 3 books a week! Apart from her deep love for her children and family, Diana's personality drew others to her effortlessly. Full of life and always eager to be out-and-about, she embraced each day with enthusiasm that was truly remarkable. Diana's laughter filled rooms with joy and her presence could light up even the darkest of days; this legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she held dear! She is survived by two daughters, Rachel Barry and Rebecca Barry; sister, Patricia Goulas; sister-in-law, Bonnie Barry; nieces, Shana Goulas, Sharon (Michael) Ayers, Sharisse (Ronnie) Crochet, Sheryl (Bryan) Diez, and Shelli Goulas; and nephews, Mitch Barry, Brady Barry, and Patrick (Leigh) Barry. She was preceded in death by husband, Michael J. Barry; parents, Walter and May Skaggs; and brothers-in-law, "Buzzy" Barry and Tommy Goulas. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at First United Methodist Church - Lafayette on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 9:00AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Michael Ayers, Ronnie Crochet, Bryan Diez, Patrick Barry, Brady Barry, and Weldon Barry.
