Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers - Bertrand for Donald Joseph "Black" Menard, 73, who passed away on September 20, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. Deacon Art Bakeler will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum in Scott. Donald was a Golden Glove Boxer in his youth. He served in the Louisiana National Guard as a Military Police. Donald was a former Scott Police Chief and retired Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputy with 42 years of combined service. He also worked in the family business at Early's Food Store. Donald made Cursillo 214 and volunteered his time at the retreats. He also volunteered at the UMC detox unit. Donald was a very giving man who would help others in any way he could. He dearly loved his family and Wednesday night family dinners. Donald, a resident of Scott, was the son of the late Dalton J. Menard and the former Rosita Trahan. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Lantier Menard; three children, Jami (Dwayne) Martel, Amanda (Eric) Waltner, and Donovan Menard; six grandchildren, Bryce (Felicia) Martel, Myles (Callie) Martel, Grayson, Avery, Evan Waltner, and Dominic Menard; two great grandchildren, Madilyn and Calvin Martel; siblings, Floyd (Jane) Menard, Larry (Kathy) Menard, Allen (Juanita) Menard, Tommy Menard, Glen Menard, Mike (Janice) Menard, Rachel (Mel) Latiolais, and Becky (Fred) Landry; sisters-in-law, Karen (Horace) Hebert, and Jan (John) Verrette. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kim Menard; siblings, Lester (Jane) Menard, Mildred (Weston) Broussard, Rudell Broussard; sisters in law, Sandra and Debbie Menard, and his in-laws, Early Lantier and Mildred Lantier Doucet. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Donovan Menard, Dwayne Martel, Eric Waltner, Bryce Martel, Myles Martel, Grayson Waltner, Mike Menard, and Glen Menard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dominic Menard, and Evan Waltner. Special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice, especially Karen, Regina, Valerie, and Zach.
