Dorothy D. Compton

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 19, 2010 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, for Dorothy (Dot) Daly Compton, 90, who died on Friday at her Lafayette residence after a long illness. Her son-in-law, Deacon Reginald Bollich, will officiate. Music selections will be rendered by Aundria Mouton. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery and she will be buried next to her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles Compton Sr. Dot was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette. Born on November 14, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Oliver Perry Daly Jr. and the former Gertrude Scranton; and granddaughter of two late 19th century pioneer physicians, Dr. Oliver Perry Daly Sr. of St Landry Parish and Dr George W. Scranton of the Broussard area. She graduated from Lafayette High School and Louisiana State University (1940) where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was Queen Evangeline VII in 1940, a charter member of the Krewe of Attakapas, a member of La Causerie, and a member of the Pink Ladies at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Known by her grandchildren as Dee Dee, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dr O.P. Daly III (Buddy). She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Reginald Bollich (Dottie), a son Charles Compton Jr. (Chuck) of Houston, a sister Mrs. J.Y. Bordelon (Nita) of Opelousas, a brother Dr. John M. Daly (Jack) and his wife Pat of Metairie; five grandchildren Lisa Greenwood and her husband Eric of Lafayette, Michael LeBlanc and his wife Angela of Lafayette, Christy Miller and her husband Eric of The Woodlands Texas, Brad Compton of Houston, and Stephanie Svatek and her husband Jeff of Houston; nine great grandchildren, Everett, Sam, Amelie, Avery, Jude, Owen, Jake, Reed and Tate, as well as several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are to be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive in Lafayette from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 12:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers; Richard Bordelon, Dr Joseph Bordelon, Dr Nelson Daly, John Daly, Michael Daly, David Daly, and Scott Daly. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Weber, Dr. Roy (Brumby) Sessions, and Howard Fournet. The family would like to thank Robin Seals for her dedicated and loving care of their mother during her illness.
