Dorothy Montesano

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 16, 2015 in the Cathedral of St. John Evangelist in Lafayette for Dorothy Broussard Montesano, 83, who died Friday, March 13, 2015 evening at her residence, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will be the Celebrant. Lectors will be Christine Hargrove and Lindsey Smith. Altar Servers will be Matt and Clay Montesano. Gift Bearers will be Claire Orgeron, Lauren Montesano and Jaimie Melancon. Eucharistic Ministers will be Amanda and Stephanie Montesano. Entombment will be in the St. John Mausoleum. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 yrs, Joseph “John “ Montesano; one daughter, Susan Vincent and her husband, Ronnie; three sons, Joseph “Bubba” Montesano and his wife, Carla; Bruce Montesano and his wife, Stacy; William “Bill” Montesano and his wife, Michele; eleven Grandsons, Thomas Orgeron and his wife, Michelle, Stephen Orgeron, Nick Montesano and his wife, Rebecca, Andy, Mike, Tony, Clay, Matthew, Eric, Cody, and Kyle Montesano; eight Granddaughters, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ashley Maturin US Army, Lindsey Smith and her husband, Matt, Jaimie Melancon and her husband, Jesse, Christine Hargrove and her husband, LCDR Trey Hargrove USNR, Claire Orgeron, Amanda, Stephanie and Lauren Montesano, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Catherine Montesano Orgeron. A native of Lafayette, Dorothy was born an only child to her parents, Alma Prejean and Louis P. Broussard. Growing up, she was doted on by her parents and extended family. She graduated from Mount Carmel Catholic High School in 1950. She maintained a close relationship with many of her former schoolmates most of her life. A graduate of SLI, now known as ULL, she earned a degree in Home Economics. Dorothy worked alongside her husband for many years as a bookkeeper in the family business while raising her children. At an early age, she developed Multiple Sclerosis, which she battled for over 40 years. She had an indomitable spirit, cooperating with her husband in accompanying him on their many travels over the globe, cheering on thoroughbreds at horse races, playing Bridge and Blackjack, and enjoying many a night out to dinner with family and friends. She was a lesson is courage, accepting her many Crosses with humility and dignity. The family gives thanks to God for the long and fruitful life Dorothy lived despite her many obstacles. The family acknowledges the fidelity of their father for his tireless affection towards her, and also for the dedication and exhausting effort on the part of her daughter, Susan, in loving her. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 9:00 am until time of service. Pallbearers will be Stephen Orgeron, Nick, Andy, Eric, Mike and Tony, Cody and Kyle Montesano. Honorary Pallbearers are Dominic Pedulla, Matt Smith, Trey Hargrove, Jesse Melancon, and Ed Landry. The family is tremendously grateful for the attention of Dorothy’s lifelong and dearest friends who loved her unceasingly. Also, the family extends their most heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers; Sandra, Janet, Kylee, Lottie, Brandi and Lamarine.
