Dorrine Kennedy Comeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Howard Blessing at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Dorinne Kennedy Comeaux, 84 on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A scripture service will be prayed at 6:30 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home. Lectors will be Christine Elizabeth Comeaux and Kimberly Alexis Comeaux. Gift bearer will be Meagan Barra. The family request that the visitation be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday from 8:00 am until the time of services. Dorinne was born in Manitoba, Canada. She attended school at St. Mary's Academy and College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She moved to Santa Barbara, California and worked at the Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel. When transportation by the United States Government after World War II was approved, she moved to Oahu, Hawaii. She worked there in the Intelligence Department under the Chief of Intelligence for the 7th Air Force Headquarters at Hickam Field, Oahu, Hawaii. She later transferred to Tokyo, Japan and worked for the Far east Air Force Headquarters during the Army of Occupation. Her flight from Hawaii to Japan was the last flight of the "Flying Tigers". This was a group lead by Brigadier General Claire Chennault after the Japanese surrender. In Tokyo she met and married captain Walter B. Comeaux, Jr. They returned to New Orleans to live while Dr. Comeaux finished his surgery residency. They had three sons, Walter B. Comeaux, III, Dr. "Tommy" Comeaux and Colonel Clark Comeaux, D.D.S., United States Army. Dorinne was predeceased by her parents John and Phyllis Kennedy and her step father Captain Elisha Cooper, United States Merchant Marines, her son, Dr. Tommy Comeaux, her grandson Philip Thomas Comeaux, her brother Donald Kennedy of Ontario, Canada, and her nephew, Randy Robichaux of Lafayette, LA. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter Comeaux, Walter B. Comeaux, III, his wife Leisa and their daughters Christine and Kimberly, Colonel Clark Comeaux, USA, and his wife Colonel Kimberly Fedele, USA, and their daughter Catherine, her sisters-in-law, Sylvia Kennedy of Canada, Doris Robicheaux and nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada. With her husband, she was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Oakbourne Country Club, The Lafayette Town House and the City Club where she served on the board of Governors. She co-founded the Dukes of Gabriel Introduction Presentation Party. She was a member of the Lafayette Parish Medical Alliance and the Realtor Association of Acadiana. She was a Real Estate Broker and CEO of Candy Comeaux Real Estate. Her desire in life was world travel. It included Tibet, Burma, Siberia, China, Kashmir, India, Nepal, and many European, Middle Eastern and South American Countries as well as islands of the Caribbean. Pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Alexander, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Burnell, Dr. Kenneth Laborde, Dr. Bruce Grey, Mr. Conrad Meyer, Dan Richard, Sonny Landreth , Milton Laday, and Dr. Gene Brierre. Honorary pallbearers will be Malcolm Martin, Dr. Wilfred Dolan, Dr. John Straub, Todd Mouton and Chris Robichaux. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mrs. Comeaux to the Dr. Tommy Comeaux Memorial Endowment Fund for Traditional Music, 101 West Vermilion St., Lafayette, LA 70501.
