Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Edwin Lee Doyal, 97, who peacefully passed away on Tuesday. August 26, 2025. Pastor Ryan Mustered will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Ed was born in Chatam, Louisiana. He was a gifted mathematician graduated as valedictorian at the age of 15. In 1947, he enlisted in the Aircorp that became the U.S. Air Force. He was the Staff Sargeant in the Guided Missile Company that conducted A bomb testing on Enewetak from the island of Quadulan, Pacific Islands. After his service was ended in 1953, he attended Northwester State University and LSU, earning accounting and business degrees. He was the accountant for Domniques Stockyards for several years and served as the Davidson Methodist Church treasurer for decades. He became an insurance agent in 1953 and excelled as a Certified Life Underwriter Insurance Specialist as well as a Certified Life Insurance Counselor retiring from Stiel Insurance Company after a long successful career. He was the co-founder of the Beavers Club in 1958 and was instrumental in the development of Beaver Park as well as Beaver Lake. As the original resident of Holiday Park and Gardens, he was one of the developers of the Civic Organization for the neighborhood which made our subdivision a wonderful place to grow up. He led the planning and development both parks and the neighborhood swimming pool. He had a dream to develop a park for handicapped children which he was researching up until his illness. Edwin loved the Lord, his family and friends. He was a true gentleman, a friend to all and had a great sense of humor. He was a great historian with much knowledge to share. He loved the Cajun culture, music, singing and videography. He was the videographer for the band “Corney and Friends” as they entertained in local nursing homes. He was an avid fisherman who hosted many friends at his former camp. He was radio personality for the daily livestock report on KXKW. He is survived by his son, Robert (Carmen) Doyal; daughter, Patricia Doyal McGovern; grandchildren, Brandy (Dan) Drake, Ryan (Laurie) Doyal, Jennifer (Matt) Russell, James McGovern, Julie McGovern, Andrew (Susan) Quarels, Tiffany Oliver; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Edwin Doyal and Mary Evelyn Philips; wife, Betty Bradley Doyal; son, Charles Doyal; brother, Reese Doyal; sister, Delma Culver; and granddaughter, Jessica McGovern. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home, Bertrand Drive on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Pallbearers will be his son, Robert Doyal, Grandsons, Ryan Doyal, James McGovern, Andrew Quarels, Tony Broussard, and Paul Walters. Honorary Pallbearers will be his beloved comrades, The Beaver Club Members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lafayette Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
