Elaine Marie Leger Thibodeaux

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Delhomme Funeral Home - Lafayette for Elaine Marie Leger Thibodeaux, 80, who passed away peacefully on the evening of June 21, 2025 at North Houston Transitional Care. A Liturgy of the Word will begin at 2:30 PM in the funeral home parlor, led by Deacon Mike Crane of St. Mary Mother of the Church. The family would like to extend a thank you to the caring staff at North Houston where Elaine resided for 1-1/2 years. She made her rounds daily to visit with the Physical Therapy staff, front desk and many of the other residents. She was affectionally known there as “Thibby,” and was considered a friend by staff and residents alike. Ms. Thibodeaux was a native of the Lafayette area, resident of Houston and was the daughter of the late Freddie Leger and the former Verdie Boudreaux. Elaine was born in Cankton in August of 1944 and went on to graduate from USL with a nursing degree in 1970, after the birth of her first child. Her caring nature made her a natural for a career in nursing until she retired 20 years later. She was also known for her outgoing personality and was always able to make people smile with her dry humor and infectious laugh. She was also an accomplished artist, winning several awards with her sculptures and oil paintings. After retirement, she devoted her free time to volunteering at a Lafayette counseling center and attending French Table events. She spent her later years in the Houston area, enjoying time with her grandchildren, relaxing and reading. She is survived by her daughter Lori Haiko and husband David of Lafayette; her son, Brad Galland and wife Sharla of Brenham, TX; her granddaughter, Leah Galland of Amarillo, TX and grandson Collin Galland of Cypress, TX; her sister Phyllis Howe and husband Earl of Waller, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents Freddie and Verdie Leger, two sisters Nell Rose Thibodeaux and Gloria Dean Moreau, one brother John Elridge Leger.
