The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” Psalm 16:5-6 A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in Methodist Cemetery - St. Martinville, LA for Elizabeth “Betty” Starr Heard, 93, who passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on February 4, 2021. Brother Luther Burney, Minister to Senior Adults at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, LA, will conduct the memorial services. Burial will take place in Methodist Cemetery - St. Martinville, LA. It is located on Hwy 347 between Dugas Street and Leo Lane in St. Martinville. Mrs. Heard, a resident of Lafayette, was born December 10, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late William Starr and the former Mae Wood. She grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High and SLI (UL Lafayette). After working in retail, the oil and gas industry, and finally as a claims rep for Social Security, she married Stephen “Dick” Heard in 1958. They were married for 56 years when he died in 2015. She was an active member of Chapter AT P.E.O. (a philanthropic educational organization). She was also an active member of First Baptist Church, Lafayette, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, and played the string bass in the orchestra for many years. She loved people in general and her family in particular, especially her grands and great grands. Her friends and family will always remember how much she loved to laugh. She is survived by her daughter Beth (Terry) Frith of Lafayette and her son Steve (Sheryl) Heard of Pooler GA; 7 grandchildren: Crystal (Brian) Morgan of St. Augustine FL, Benjamin (Danielle) Frith of Lafayette, Rebecca Frith of Seoul, South Korea, Susannah Frith of Orlando FL, Christopher, Allison, and Lauren Heard, all of Pooler GA, and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother James (Ruby) Starr of St. Paul MN and her sister-in-law Theresa Heard of Houma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother George Starr. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and also to her caregivers from Agnes’ Loving Care (Jennifer Lockett, Faye Babineaux, and Wallena Ledet) for the care and comfort she received during her last months. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
