Ella Toni Thibodeaux

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Youngsville for Ella Toni Thibodeaux, 76, who passed away peacefully on January 3, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will take place in St. Anne's Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John "Toon" Thibodeaux; two daughters, Kim Bainbridge and her husband, Tom of Tomball, Texas; Michele Zerangue and her husband, Alvin of Lafayette, Louisiana and one son, Mike Thibodeaux of Youngsville, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Megan, Allison and Morgan Zerangue of Lafayette, Louisiana. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Reed of Iota, Louisiana who came to Youngsville to care for Toni during the last months of her life. A long time resident of Youngsville, Louisiana, Toni taught swimming lessons in her back yard to many of the children in her community. Later on, she taught swimming lessons with her good friend Jenny Menard to the children of the Scott area. She was a fantastic seamstress and loved to make clothes for the children and grandchildren. She also loved shopping at Fashion Warehouse and spending time with her many friends. She was also instrumental in working with the Lafayette Parish School Board in support of Public Law 94-142 to ensure that her son and other special needs children were afforded the same rights as other children. Many of these programs that she fought for are still in existence today. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Joseph Brierre, Dr. Julian Krawczyk, and Dr. Jorge Belgodere and to the nurses and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes and Heart of Hospice for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mrs. Thibodeaux during her time of need. A special thanks to David and Shannon Bares of Farmers' Drug Store in Youngsville for their special love and attention.
