Ellis Romero

Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice for Ellis Romero, 76, who passed away on June 15, 2015 at his residence. Reverend A. Rex Broussard, Jr., Pastor of St. Basil Church in Judice will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place at St. Anne Cemetery in Youngsville. Mr. Ellis, a resident of Maurice, was the son of the late Cleus Romero and the former Enola Girard. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Noemie Jane Touchet Romero; four daughters, Tammy Broussard, Jacqueline Vincent, Sonia Desormeaux and Wendy Carroll; one son, Kevin Romero; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Earless and Eldis Romero; and one sister, Oline Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilfred, Clifford and Sterling Romero; four children, Ellis Romero, Jr., Tina Romero and two angels. Ellis was a long time resident of Acadiana who graduated from Lafayette High School in 1957 and was a retired auto electrician and former owner of Romero's Auto Electric in Abbeville. In addition to hunting and fishing, he was a nationally acclaimed breeder of French Mondain pigeons for over 56 years. Ellis was a Fourth Degree Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus and actively involved in the church activities at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Leroy. He loved his family, friends and especially spending time with the grandchildren. Ellis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home in Maurice on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Trevor Broussard, Tristan Broussard, Joshua Desormeaux, Jacob Desormeaux, Hunter Warren and Jessie Boudreaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifton Touchet, Donald Boudreaux, and Joe Credeur. In lieu of flowers the family, requests that donations be made in Ellis’ name to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250 Washington, DC 20005, www.als.org.
