Elmo C. Authement

Funeral services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 6, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Elmo C. Authement, 86, who passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident on April 14, 2007. Reverend Msgr. Harry Benefiel will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Mr. Authement, the son of the late Joseph O. Authement and the former Eliska Lefort, was born April 15, 1921 in Cut Off, La. He was in the military service having served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II and was recalled for two years during the Korean War. He was a member of the Retired Reserve with permanent commission of Captain. He earned a Masters Degree from Louisiana State University in 1949. He spoke English, French and Spanish. Mr. Authement had many titles and honors, former Dean of Administration at Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, La; fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus; member of Conseil De La Vie Francaise En Amerique, representing the State of Louisiana; past President of the Lafourche Parish Chapter of CODOFIL; member of the State Advisory Board for the Promotion of French in Louisiana; former President of The Thibodaux Regional Planning Commission; former Secretary of The Association of Louisiana Colleges and Universities Personnel Administrators; recipient of French Academic Palms; organizer and First Chapter President of Phi Delta Kappa, Honorary Education Fraternity for Thibodaux area; former President of Parapsychology Association of Thibodaux; 1978 'King' of Le Petit Dejeuner De La Boucherie Acadienne; Vice President of Foundation CODIFIL; founding member of Lafayette Schools Federal Credit Union; awarded a medal of 'Ordere des Francophones d'Amerique', representing the State of Louisiana since 1972; a member and Board of Directors for Cajun Area on Aging; President of Television-Louisiane (secured the exclusive rights for the entire State of Louisiana to broadcast French Satellite Television 'TV5'); producer of French Television for Lafayette Parish; and Vermillion District Board Member, representing Lafayette Parish Council. Mr. Authement was recognized as a Living Legend by the Acadian Museum in Erath, La (www.acadianmuseum.com) and credited as being a Co-founder of CODOFIL which promotes the French language. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Dr.'s Shirley Covington and Francine Manuel for their compassionate care. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Larriviere Authement; two daughters, Rebecca Louise Authement, and Pamela Authement Nguyen and husband, Binh; one grandchild, Rebecca Brooke Nguyen; one brother, Warren Authement and wife, Shirley of Thibodaux; and one sister-in-law, Lillian Authement of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Norma A. Brock, Irene Crowder, and Olga A. Pierce; and one brother, Jules Authement. Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be prayed Sunday in the funeral home at 7:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Francis Larriviere, Dr. Hugh Larriviere, Sal Marcello, Binh Nguyen, Charlie Larriviere, Bill Hamilton, Bernie Larriviere and Lewis Beagle.
