Ernest "Roge" Roger Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2024 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Ernest "Roge" Roger, Jr., 80, who passed away on January 1, 2024. Pastor David Baudoin, Associate Pastor of Our Savior's Church - Midtown, will conduct the funeral services. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Roger, a resident of Carencro, was the son of the late Ernest Roger, Sr. and the former Rita Broussard. A graduate of Lafayette High, class of 1961, Ernest worked for his father at the Texaco until he found his passion, and calling, as a firefighter with the Lafayette Fire Department. Ernest had a career spanning 25 years, where he retired in 1993 as a District Fire Chief. Prior to firefighting, he spent some time serving with the United States Army Ordnance Corp in Ft. Sill. A proud member of the Lafayette Municipal Golf Course, where many a clubs were thrown and one even wrapped around a tree. Ernest loved his New Orleans Saints and taking trips to the games with family & friends. He eventually found a second family working with the Louisiana Wholesale Florist "The Co-op", where he worked for 15 years until his passing. "Nine months ago, Ernest lost the love of his life, Margaret, and we find peace knowing they are happily re-united." He is survived by his son, Kevin J. Roger (Shannon); daughter, Wanda Roger LaFleur (Chris); grandchildren, Kuristin Roger Stoute (Chris), Chasity Bourque, Hunter Roger (Lisa), and Jacob Roger; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ricky Roger (Troyanne); and sister-in-laws, Francis Cormier and Linda Robin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret T. Roger; parents, Ernest and Rita Roger; sister, Judy Ann Roger Johnson (Barry); and brothers-in-law, Aubrey Cormier and Gerald Robin. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM on Friday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be members of the Lafayette Fire Department Honor Guard.
