Eugene P. Waguespack

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at St. Edmond Catholic Church for Deacon Eugene P. Waguespack, 79, who passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 12:23 am at his residence. Reverend Wayne Duet, Pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, LA will be the Celebrant; Con Celebrants will be Reverend Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church and Reverend Bill Melancon, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath, LA Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Gene, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the son of the late Joseph Waguespack and the former Elaine Dupre'. Gene had many career landmarks; a few of them were working for the LA Department of Transportation as Chief Engineer and as acting Secretary of the Department. Closest to his heart was becoming a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1980 and serving St. Jean Vianney in Baton Rouge, St. Jules in Lafayette, and St. Peters in Carencro. His family is inspired by the many people he touched in all aspects of his life, whether officiating weddings and baptisms, or starting on the job literacy programs for the Department, or initiating the LA Project Wildflower program, Gene saw the best in people and places and nurtured all in any way he could, especially his family. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty five years Laura Hebert Waguespack; his children, Amy L. Waguespack, Steven P. Waguespack, Patrick E. Waguespack and wife Aimee'; grandchildren, Harmony, Ashtyn, Austin, Mason and Hayley; his great granddaughter, Harper; and his sister, Frances Barre' . He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Deacon Kenneth Waguespack. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Thursday, January 8, 2015 at St. Edmond Catholic Church 4131 West Congress St. Lafayette, LA 70506 from 9:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Patrick Waguespack, Austin Waguespack, George Saucier, Brett Boudreaux, Scott Boudreaux, Kenny Waguespack, Greg Viator and Skip Viator. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The National Kidney Foundation or Bishops Services Appeal. The family would like to thank Nursing Specialties for their practical and spiritual guidance, especially Danielle Hebert-Guidry who served as Gene's home health nurse for two years.
