Eula Begnaud Mire

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel in Scott for Eula Begnaud Mire, 76 of Lafayette who passed away on December 17, 2012 at 5:58 am. Father Mario Romero will conduct the funeral services. Reader will her granddaughter Jamie Humphries. Soloist will be Helen Boudreaux. Burial will take place at St. Basil Mausoleum in Judice. A native of Duson, and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Mire, was born on August 28, 1936 to Celestin and the former Roberta (Alleman) Begnaud of Judice. Mrs. Mire was a practicing Catholic and loved her Lord. She attended Judice High School. She worked at Castille Engine and Auto Parts for 10 years. She was a caring baby sitter for many years. She worked at Rex Champagne's Grocery Store and Lagneaux's Grocery before she retired in 1998. She is survived by her six children, David J. Castille and his companion Terri Trahan of Lafayette, Carolyn A. Lormand of Sunset, Wade P. Castille and his companion Tira Miller of Lafayette, Donna L. Castille of Lafayette, Annette M. and her husband Allen Keith Lanclos of Carencro, and Bryan J. Castille and his wife Andrea (Jones) Castille of Duson; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and two great' grandchildren on the way. She is survived by one sister Bertha B. Comeaux of Judice, and one brother Harold Begnaud of Judice; her godmother and aunt, Maydell Alleman of Duson, nephews Ronald, John, Clifford, Richard, Ray, Mark, and her niece Linda. She also leaves to cherish her memory special friends, Jack LeBlanc Sr. and his family of Lafayette, Marilyn Thibodeaux, Ethel Menard, Mary Ann Vincent and Hilda Broussard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Curley J. Mire, one sister Mable B. Stevens, one brother-in-law Thomas Comeaux, and one grandchild, Anthony Castille. Still speaking the Cajun French language, Eula was a very sweet lady who was no stranger to hard work, working in flower beds, raising farm animals, tending to gardens, and canning and preserving vegetables. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends especially her eggplant rice dressing, corn maque choux, vegetable soup, and pralines. Eula treasured the years she spent with Curley traveling, dancing and listening to French and country music. The Atlanta Braves and the New Orleans Saints were her favorite teams. Spending time with her family was very important and precious to her. During the last five and a half years, she enjoyed fixing puzzles, playing Bingo and passing the time with Julie, Rosie, Mary, and many others at Maison de Lafayette. Eula was a blessing, a loving, giving person and will be missed by the members of her family and many friends. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Lormand, Steffan Lanclos, Jacob Lanclos, Adam Lanclos, Vincent Lanclos and Darren Castille. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons. A rosary will be prayed by Hilda Broussard and 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Scott on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service. The family would like to thank the staff of Maison de Lafayette for the care they provided for Eula for the last 5 1/2 years. A special thank you to Neil Larriviere, Brenda Chaisoon, Abby Bourque, Dawn Delhomme, and Lou Babin. The family also thanks Hospice Compassus for their care of Eula.
