Francis Reese

A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in Delhomme Funeral Home - Maurice for Francis Reese, 89, who passed away on May 23, 2025. Deacon Keith Duhon will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Mausoleum - Milton. Francis Reese, loving husband and father, was born in Gueydan the 10th child of a family of 11 to George Reese, Sr. and the former Laura Moore. He joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and served for 20 years across different duty stations all over the world. Over the 20 years, Francis was stationed at all 3 Marine Divisions, which are Camp Lejeune, Camp Pendleton, and Okinawa. In addition, he served at Parris Island and also as a recruiter in Dothan, AL. Over the years, Francis served in Cuba, the Philippines, Japan, and Veagus, PR. He served in Korea and did two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. One of his favorite duties was when he was on embassy duty in: Khartoum, Sudan; Baghdad, Iraq; and Beirut, Lebanon. He also went on a 6 month "Mediterranean cruise" aboard an aircraft carrier, had a private audience with Pope Paul VI, and visited many more great countries. After spending 10 years in the Corps, Francis came home on leave and met a hometown girl in Gueydan, Helena Plaisance. They were married for 58 years with one daughter and one son, but lost a daughter at birth. After retiring from the Corps, they moved to Milton and Francis worked for Evangeline Maid Bread Company as a bread man for 22 years. Following his second retirement from the bakery, he and Helena enjoyed traveling throughout Israel and Italy, and also to many attractions in the United States. Lastly, Francis was a longtime member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of both the Marine Corps League & the VFW. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helena Plaisance Reese; daughter, Carrie R. (Kenny) Logan; son, Philip (Rebecca) Reese; four grandchildren, Reese Taylor, Jack Reese, Jenna Reese, and Megan Reese; two step-grandsons, Ben and Mark Logan. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Laura Michelle; his parents; and all ten of his siblings. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Maurice on Monday, May 26, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 beginning at 8:00 AM. A presentation by members of the Marine Corps League will be held, prior to service, at 8:45 AM. Pallbearers will be Philip Reese, Jack Reese, Kenny Logan, Reese Taylor, Derrick Dutton, and Ben Logan.
