Gary Lyons

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Delhomme Funeral Home - Scott for Dillard Gary Lyons, 76, who passed away on November 19, 2025. Deacon Art Bakeler will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Mausoleum. Gary was born in Church Point but called Lafayette home for most of his life. He was a graduate of Northside High School and proudly served his country as an Army veteran, stationed in Korea during the time of the Vietnam War. After his military service, he dedicated himself to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at Lafayette General, St. Francisville General, Angola State Penitentiary and West Jefferson General in the New Orleans area. A true Louisianan to his core, Gary had a deep love for Cajun music and was a lifelong member of the Who Dat Nation and never missed an opportunity to be disappointed on game day because of it. He was tête dure and lived life on his own terms, fueled by pots of black coffee, cigarettes and all the junk food a man could want. We take comfort knowing he's in heaven right now eating all the boudin and cracklin his heart desires. Though he was in the Army, he was known for his sailor's vocabulary and playful banter with anyone he considered a friend or family and, though seemingly shocked, they secretly loved every profane minute of it. He spent 76 years correcting people who called him Dillard because it's the only thing he hated more than he hated cheese. Above all, he was a very proud father and grandfather. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved fur babies - BoBo, Buster, and Emmie - who preceded him in death. Gary was the son of the late Dave Lyons and Thelma Clavier Lyons. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela-Rae Lyons Hovey; grandson Braxton Hovey; brother John Lyons (Daisy); sister Cheryl Melancon (Joe); brothers in law, Roland Gaspard and Randy Meaux; sister in law, Darlene Lyons and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Charles Lyons, Wayne Lyons, Larry Lyons and Grant Lyons; sisters, Pauline Gaspard, Dora Lyons and Annette Lyons. Pallbearers will be Braxton Hovey, Casey Lyons, Joe Melancon, Randy Meaux, Aaron Lyons and Coy Clavelle. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Lyons, Troy Abshire, Jacob Roger and Kevin Roger. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home – Scott on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 8:00 AM until the time of service.
