George Howard Reneau

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette for George Howard Reneau, age 93, who passed away on August 24 at Maison de Lafayette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 12:00 noon until time of services. Reverend Larry Langley, Pastor of Garden Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. He is survived by sons, Bob Reneau and his wife Jodi, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Don Reneau and his wife, Lisa Wedeen of Chicago, IL, one grandson, Zack Reneau-Wedeen and one sister, Louise Kirkley of Belton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Reneau of Lafayette; parents, Guy Bunyon Reneau of Kansas and the former Elizabeth Chandler Reneau of Missouri; a brother, Walter Thomas Reneau of Kansas and a sister, Margaret Johnston. George, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, was an independent oilman for over 40 years. He was a member of Garden Baptist Church. George graduated from Oklahoma University in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Tau honorary societies. While at OU he was enrolled in the US Army's Civil Aeronautics Administration program to train pilots. This led to his service during WW II in the Army Air Corps as a pilot and flight commander. He was discharged in 1945 and went to work for Stanolind Oil Company where he participated in introduction of diamond coring to the drilling industry. George worked in the oil industry for several companies as a Registered Petroleum Engineer. He was President and Director of Alco Oil and Gas Corporation until 1969 when he retired to establish a number of exploration and oil well workover companies. George's lifelong passion was spreading his love of God to others through his active involvement with Gideon's International travelling as far as Indonesia and as close as local prisons and schools. George's love of country took many forms, the least of which was his long-time affiliation with the Republican Party in Louisiana. He often said that he was a Republican when the entire Louisiana Republican Party could hold a meeting in a phone booth. Everyone who came in contact with him in any capacity has their own sweet, funny moments with him that they remember fondly. God bless you Dad.
