Geraldine Anita Cormier Hubbell

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 in St. Pius X Catholic Church for Geraldine Anita Cormier Hubbell, 85, who passed away on January 18, 2024. Fr. Michael Russo, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church - Youngsville, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Deacon Phil Lizotte will serve as Con-Celebrant of the Mass and the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Geraldine, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Loree Cormier and the former Thelma LeBlanc. A 1955 graduate of Lacassine High School, which was where she began her early passion for music, writing, and oratory. She received her Bachelor of Music degree at SLI in 1959, and Master of Fine Arts from Tulane University in 1971. While in New Orleans, she worked as a piano teacher at Ursuline Academy, a church organist at the St. Jude Shrine, and accompanist for the Loyola Opera Workshops, Tulane Opera Workshops, and the Metropolitan Opera auditions. After moving to Lafayette, she had a career as a private piano teacher and was certified as a Master Piano Teacher by the Music Teachers National Association. She worked as the staff pianist at UL Lafayette, and as a professional accompanist for many singers and instrumentalists on the concert stage. Later, she spent eight years in arts administration as the executive director of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, as well as the publisher of CLASSICAL magazine. She was recognized for her achievements by the Mayor's Commission on the Needs of Women in 1982, and in 1999 by Connections, an organization for women. In 2000, she was recognized by Lifestyles (the Independent) as one of "Women Who Mean Business". For over 60 years, Geraldine was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity serving her college, alumnae, and province chapters, as president. In 1978, she became a member of the National Officers Council, and then from 1984-88, she served as national vice president of ritual on the National Executive Board. In addition, she was one of the professional accompanists for three of the SAI national conventions. One of the founders of Chorale Acadienne, she was an energetic and enthusiastic supporter of the arts where her inherent passion was in collaborating and enabling other human beings to realize their potentials. She continued to encourage and accompany young music students in their auditions, juries and competitions, until the time of her passing. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine "Kitty" Credeur & her husband, Timothy "Timmy" Credeur; grandchildren, Kim Hubbell Yoder (Josh), Angela Rose Hubbell, Christian "Zeke" Hubbell, Melissa McLaren Barton (Adam), Timothy "Tim" Credeur II (Mamie), Jill Credeur Mitchell (Cleon), and Hailey Credeur Stroderd (Eric); 22 great-grandchildren; her sister, Judith Cormier Kellogg; and nephew, Paul Kellogg (Amy). She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Gerald Joseph Hubbell; son, David Louis Hubbell; parents, Loree and Thelma Cormier; brother, Thomas Darrell Cormier; brother-in-law, Jack Kellogg; and niece, Lauren Kellogg. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM. Pallbearers will be Zeke Hubbell, Josh Yoder, Timothy Credeur II, Cleon Mitchell, Eric Stroderd, Reagan Mitchell, Steve Cormier, and Mike Cormier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Blanchet, Paul Hubbell, Chris Hubbell, and Tom Hubbell. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Voitier and Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care, during Geraldine's time of need.
