Gilbert C. Habbit

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2013 in Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Gilbert C. Habbit, 69, who passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 2:40 am at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Navy. Gilbert, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the son of the late Ferris Habbit and the former Edwige Ashy. He was born on December 8, 1943 and spent most of his life in Lafayette. He proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Princeton. During his lifetime he worked as a building contractor with his long time friends ,Cecil and Signa DeSoto. He was a man with a friendly spirit and a kind heart that people were drawn to. His family, friends, and acquaintances were always touched by his hospitality. The person he loved and cherished the most in this life was his wife, Paulette, whom he treated like a queen. He did everything for her down to the smallest things. He cared for his kids better than any man could and would do anything for them. He did many things for other people that affected those people greatly. What meant the most to Gilbert was his family and friends. Having them all together was his greatest joy. He will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Paulette Lamothe Habbit; sons, Jason A. Habbit and wife Janine and Travis A. Habbit; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Evan Habbit and two brothers, Ferris Habbit and Jerry Habbit and wife Vicki. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 8:00 am until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all his doctors : Dr. Thomas Voitier, Dr. Richard Dearman, Dr. Wade May, Dr. Salman Malad; the caring nurses at Lafayette General Medical Center; and his caregivers at Synergy Home Care. In loving memory of Gilbert Habbit and in lieu of flowers donations to the family would be preferred. Pallbearers will be Louie Cowen, Jared Lamothe, Blake Habbit, Jim Vildibill, Paul Lamothe, Dale Lamothe, Barry Lamothe, David Lamothe, Tony Lamothe and Alex Habbit. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ferris Habbit, Jerry Habbit, Fred Koury, Sammy Abraham, Carl Wininger, Cecil DeSoto, Butch Naquin and T-Boy Hebert.
