Gladys Guidry Berthelot

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in St. Leo the Great Church for Gladys Guidry Berthelot, 93, who passed away on March 6, 2023. Reverend Kyle White, Pastor, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Our Mom came from humble beginnings, born in Catahoula, Louisiana. She quit school in the 7th grade to stay home and care for her sick mother and siblings. She later met our Dad, got married and moved to Lafayette. While raising her children she went to work in the school cafeteria. During that time, she decided to continue her education. For 6 years she worked days and went to college at night, all while raising her 4 kids. She received her Masters in Education and went on to be a lower education teacher, retiring in 1995. Mom and Dad loved seeing the country in their explorations, so they drove on all of their many trips. When our Dad fell ill, she devoted herself to caring for him. Even though Mom was retired she still had the teacher instinct that she passed along to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her hobbies were working in her yard and her yard was immaculate year-round. She also loved watching birds as they came to enjoy the food she put out for them. Other hobbies were weekly card games with her closest friends and breakfast gatherings on their birthdays. She enjoyed going to the casino and she knew when each and every full moon or new moon would occur! She always felt that was her lucky time. She passed peacefully in her home on Monday, March 6, 2023 surrounded by her children. She will be missed by many because she touched so many lives. Gladys, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Angelos Guidry and the former Estella Talley. She is survived by her children, Derrel Berthelot, Connie Primeaux, Tracie Rhodes and her husband, Lloyd "Buddy", and Monique Uelmen, and her husband, Larry; grandchildren, Sheldon (Tammy) Primeaux, Alex (Abonie) Robicheaux, Marlana Rhodes, and Victoria (Cody) Foreman; great grandchildren, Alexis Primeaux, Dominique Primeaux, Addison Trahan, and Jessie Foreman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Berthelot; siblings, Leonard Guidry, Elton Guidry, Laida Viator, Leona Savoie, Paul Guidry, and Raymond Guidry. Pallbearers will be Lloyd "Buddy" Rhodes, Cody Foreman, Bert Savoie, Alex Robicheaux, Larry Uelmen, and Buddy Arton.
