Gordon John King

A Burial Rite will be held at 1:00 PM at Delhomme Funeral Home's Chapel of the Flowers on Thursday, March 2, 2017. The Family requests visiting hours to be held from 9:00 AM until time of service on Thursday. Burial will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Mausoleum in Scott. Rest in Peace: Gordon John King, Born October 8, 1933, at peace February 27, 2017. Gordon wanted his obituary to read, " he was born, he lived, and he died." There is more to that life story: In Houma, Louisiana, his loving parents, Nettie Victoria King and William Hoffman King, brought into this world 11 children: 7 brothers; Hoffman, Vernal, Earl, Elphie, Bill, Gordon, and Tommy and 4 sisters: Delores, Dorothy, Geraldine and Mattie. All, but one, Mattie Lou King Smith, remains. Gordon was born into a large family and leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces, many of whom have preceded him to Heaven. He was blessed with two children that called him Gramps. Gordon leaves a wife of 51 years, Brenda Wimberly King and a son, Billy White King and a special "daughter", Liz Arceneaux Perry. Gordon's passion was the outdoors. With his family and friends, he hunted, fished, and camped out. He was a football and track star at Terrebonne High School. He was on the Hinds Jr. College football team that won the Jr. College National Championship in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California in 1954. He finished his college football career at McNeese State. He was inducted into the Hinds Jr. College Hall of Fame. He served his country in the Navy, being honorably discharged after serving on the USS Orleck DD-886 for two years. His first coaching job was at Scott High School in 1969. He later coached in Morgan City and at New Iberia Senior High School where he was head football coach from 1972-1979. His teams were in 4 Louisiana State Playoffs. He was District 5AAAA Coach of the year in 1974, 1975, and 1977. In 1977, he was chosen as a Louisiana State All-Star Coach. There is much more to the story but it remains with the many, many people who knew him and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mathew Episcopal Church, P.O.
