H.A. "Foxey” Lowery, cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away October 9, 2014. Visitation will be at the Stringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, MS on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and from 9:00 am until 10:30 am on Monday, October 13, 2014. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst, MS on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 am. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City, AR from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. Interment will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00 am in Scotland Cemetery, Junction City, AR. Foxey, as he was lovingly known all of his life, was born on February 13, 1933 in Junction City, AR, the third of seven brothers and sisters. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1951 and was employed by Arkansas Power and Light. When a dark-haired student nurse, Earline Pine, caught his eye, a blind date arranged by a mutual friend was the beginning of a love that lasted 61 years. Foxey was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict, serving in Japan as a radar operator. Upon his return to the states, he resumed his employment with Arkansas Power and Light in El Dorado, AR, where he operated the first “bucket truck” in the area. Following a work-related accident, he enrolled as a forestry major at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, graduating in 1961. Early in his career, Foxey worked as quality control manager for several lumber companies in Louisiana and Mississippi, moving into lumber sales with Hood Lumber Company of Hazlehurst, MS in 1984. For 30 years Foxey traveled far and wide on his desk telephone, becoming affectionately known by those in the lumber industry as “Lumber One.” He served as President of the Mississippi Lumberman’s Association in 2003. He retired from lumber sales in 2005 at the age of 72. A gentle man of deep faith, Foxey was ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church in 1968. He found his true calling when he agreed to teach a Sunday School Class of four year olds for one year. This agreement lasted for 40 years. His love and kindness has touched the lives of many children, all of whom know him as “Mr. Foxey.” He is survived by his wife Earline Pine Lowery of Hazlehurst, MS; daughters, Jan Lowery Cooke (Lee) of Lafayette, LA; and LouAnn Lowery Jefcoat (Steven) of Laurel, MS; four grandchildren, Cori, James, Hunter and Hollie; and two great-grandchildren, Joey and Noah. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur Lowery and Sadie Graves Lowery; sister Voncille Lowery Reed; and brother William Doyle Lowery.
