Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in Delhomme Funeral Home - Chapel of the Flowers for Harold Paul Bernard, Sr., 97, who passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. Reverend William Schambough, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Milton will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Harold Bernard was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and graduated from Milton High School in 1945. He went on to attend SLI, studied Agriculture and was a member of Pi Theta Rho Social Fraternity. He enlisted in the Armed Forces as a Private First Class on March 7, 1946 and was honorably discharged on September 6, 1947. Harold and his wife, Beverly were married on August 21, 1949 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and were married for 68 years. Harold worked for South Central Bell starting in 1950 until his retirement in 1991, with 41 years of service. He retired at the age of 63 and enjoyed every day to its fullest until the end. He was able to play the game of golf as often as he wanted. Harold loved his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Dad was a kind, caring and loyal gentleman. He enjoyed holidays and gatherings with his family and friends. Sunday afternoon Bar B Ques were the best. He made sure to be at all of his grandchildren's activities, never missing an athletic event, church or school function. He had many friends throughout the years. To those friends and family who visited with him in these last few months, please know that it meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Bernard, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Edward Bernard and the former Olive Savoy. He is survived by his children, Harold Paul Bernard, Jr. and Renee Bernard Abshire; grandchildren, Nicholas Paul Abshire and his wife, Amelie and Allison Abshire Daigle and her husband, Drew; great grandchildren, Caroline Cecile Daigle, Luke Joseph Daigle, and Harper Kate Daigle. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly Cecile Bernard; siblings, Isabelle Bonin and Wilton Bernard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 8:30 AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Abshire, Drew Daigle, Howard Landry, Jr., Donald Bonin, Earl Lattier, Jr., and Layne Lattier.
