Harry St. Pierre

Please join us in celebrating the life of Harry St. Pierre, 86, with a service and musical tribute that will be held at Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, LA. Harry died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 9:05 p.m. peacefully in his home. Visiting hours will begin Monday, April 6, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Music Tribute starting at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Glynn Rhinehart, Nephew of Harry will officiate the services. A military ceremony will be held at the final resting place of Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia, LA. One of South Louisiana’s musical icons, Harry St.Pierre, jazz and Dixieland trumpeter has been called Lafayette's musical treasure by his friends and associates and those who have heard him perform. Born in New Orleans, and raised in Houma Louisiana, he graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School and then attended Southwestern Louisiana (USL) receiving both Bachelor's and Master’s degree in music education. He taught in the Parish school system and then at Cathedral Carmel for over 20 years. After retiring, He returned to his passion of teaching for an additional 10 years. Professionally, his jazz experience includes playing with the 89th Army band, Clyde McCoy (Famous for Sugar Blues), the Bob Hope Show and the Glen Miller Band under the direction of Ray McKinley, Concert band, Acadian Symphony under the direction of Gerald Guilbeaux and Xiao-Lu Li and most known as Music Director. He has traveled and performed all over the world - France, London, Hong Kong, Central American, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and throughout the United States. He performed in restaurants, club and weddings throughout the South with his combo. Harry's excitement was to travel and walk-in on local stages with small combos while watching audiences enjoy the Dixieland, jazz and big band sounds. Harry began playing trumpet professionally at the age of 6 performing with his family band in Houma for .50 and a soda. At 19, Harry was drafted into the Army and ordered to be a member of the Army 86th band. After the service, Harry went on the road for several years traveling with the big band shows. (As mentioned above) and now you know the rest of the story.... he resided as our own Louisiana treasure. Pallbearers will be Robbie St. Pierre, Glenn St. Pierre, Paul St. Pierre, Claire St. Pierre, Julian Frank, Barry Bouton, Joel Loflin, and Jeremy Frank. Honorary will be John Kenny, Will Green, Dr. Pierson Cross, Raymond Goodrich, Rick Condit, Chet Blackistone, CE Smith, Dr. Paul Morton, Rick Mathew, Gerald Guilbeaux and Randy Upton. He is survived by his wife, Frances La Jaunie St. Pierre; his four children and spouses, Robbie St. Pierre and wife Lisa, Glenn St. Pierre and wife Debbie, Paul St. Pierre, Claire St. Pierre and fiancé Anthony “Blaise” Genco; three step daughters, Wanda Loflin and husband Joel, Cindy Bouton and husband Barry, Debbie Frank and husband Julian; seventeen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and two sisters, Isabelle Callahan and Marilyn Pitre. Also survived by two sister-in-laws, Judy DeRise and Durabelle Landry and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father George Harry and mother Effie Duhe’; two brothers, Arnold and Donald; two sisters, Mildred Bourgoyne and Elaine Smith and one step son, Billy Thibodeaux.
