Isaiah 40:31 A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, March 30, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Helen Carter Lasserre who departed this life on March 26, 2009 at the age of 97. Reverend Wilmer MacNair, interim pastor of First Presbyterian of Lafayette will conduct the funeral service. Interment will take place at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Lafayette. Helen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. A native of Deerfield, Michigan and resident of Lafayette for 88 years, she was born on August 27, 1911, and enjoyed a long and happy life surrounded by loving family and friends. She was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lafayette, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Women's League of Voters. She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Lasserre Perez and husband Nick of St. Francisville; Sarah Lasserre deClouet of Lafayette; one son, Rock H. Lasserre, Jr. and wife Marcelle of St. Martinville; five grandsons, David Derbonne of Baton Roughe, Rick Derbonne of Phoenix, Arizona, Christopher and Andre deClouet of Lafayette, and Josh Lasserre of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Lasserre, Dominique and Danielle Derbonne, and Hayden and Harrison deClouet; two sisters, Mary Jane Davis of Green Forest, Arkansas, Virginia Riley of Broussard; one brother, Herbert Carter of Lafayette, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.. She was preceded in death by her her husband of 47 years, Rock H. Lasserre; her mother, Marjorie Carter of Lafayette; one sister Lillian Brasher of Lafayette and two brothers, Bobby Carter of Lafayette and Johnny Carter of Miami, Florida and a grandson, Ross H. Lasserre. The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers, Thelma Begnaud and Charlotte Castille, who provided companionship and care during the past 15 years. Thank you also goes to the staff of Maison de Lafayette and the doctors and staff of Hospice of Acadiana. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and continue on Monday, from 8:00 am until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette.
