Herman L. "Les" Pope

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2023 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Herman Leslie “Les” Pope, 83, who passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023 in Lafayette. Pastor Chris Fuselier, of First Baptist – Youngsville, will officiate the funeral services. A private inurnment will take place, following the service, at Lafayette Memorial Park. Son of the late Lonnie Alvin and Mary Elizabeth (Jamison) Pope Martin, Les was born July 27, 1939 in Hillsboro, TX. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in New Iberia. It was here Les met his beloved late wife Barbara Joy Stooksberry Pope and they were married on June 23, 1962. As a resident of Lafayette for over 60 years, Les was a successful businessman in the Oil & Gas industry, where he owned Stooksberry Well Testing until his retirement, in 1999. After retiring, Les spent time with his wife, Barbara, and cared for her until her death in 2007. Les was a man of God and devout member of his church, Community Baptist. When he was saved, it was a transformational salvation that changed him. Les loved sharing about Jesus with others. A proud Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan, Les loved cheering for both of them. However, family was always most important to him; he dearly loved his children, grandchildren, great grandson, and all of his family. He will be deeply missed by many. Les is survived by his son, Brian Pope (Karrie); daughter, Joylyn Pope Shoemake (Rick); three grandchildren, Brennan Pope (Gabrielle), Dillan Pope (Brittany), and Gentry Foreman (Leah); great grandson, Cohen Pope; and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. Les was preceded in death by his infant son; four brothers, Alvin, James, Homer and Ray Pope; three sisters, Mildred June, Mary Nell Ward, and Helen Nelson; father-in-law, H. W. Stooksberry; and mother-in-law, Victoria Daigle Stooksberry. The family requests visitation be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Lafayette on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 12:00 PM until the time of service.
