Huey Pierce Arabie

Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 1, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for Huey Pierce Arabie, 80, who passed away on December 29, 2009 at 10:15 am at his residence. Reverend A. Arockiam, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Maurice, LA, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Maurice, LA. Mr. Arabie, a resident of Rayne, Louisiana, was the son of the late Wilson Arabie of Indian Bayou, Louisiana and the former Armance Roy of Duson, LA. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He was a charter member of the Leroy Knights of Columbus Council #8843, a lifetime member of the VFW post #9822 in Judice, and a past member of the American Legion in Rayne. He served in the US Army second division during the Korean War Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the Indian Bayou and Maurice Volunteer Fire Departments. He was also a member of the North Vermilion Youth Athletic Association and the North Vermilion Stadium Backers. He was retired from Union Texas Petroleum after 20 years. Mr. Huey was an avid cook and loved to play Cajun music. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa G. Arabie of Indian Bayou, LA; two sons, Michael J. Arabie and wife Janice of Lafayette, LA, Clovis Lavergne and wife Debbie of Houston, TX; one daughter, Theresa L. Richard and husband E. E. "Blackie" Richard of Iota, LA; six grandchildren, Brandon Arabie and wife Brandi of Spring, TX, Matthew J. Arabie of Indian Bayou, LA, Cory Lavergne of Carencro, LA, Christina Regan and husband Mitchell of Egan, LA, Dr. Stephanie S. Richard of Lake Charles, LA, and Alaina Ferguson and husband John of Lafayette; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Rufus Arabie of Ridge, LA; and one sister Ruby A. Broussard of Scott, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm and resume on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening in the funeral home at 6:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Brandon Arabie, Matthew Arabie, Cory Lavergne, Michael Arabie, Mark De La Cruz, and Ray Baudoin. Honorary pallbearers will be Rufus Arabie, Winston "Sonny" Arabie, Stanley Arabie, Calvin Arabie, Rayford Arabie, Aaron Duhon, Ben De La Cruz, and Clovis Lavergne. The family would like to give special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice for the care that they have given, especially to Dana Foist.
