Huey Jude Bernard

Funeral services for Huey Jude Bernard, 76, will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Louis Richard officiating. Huey was a resident of Broussard and died at his residence. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Cecilia High School. In his Junior year he joined the Naval Reserve and after graduation he joined the US Air Force. Upon his return from the service he attended Acadia Parish Trade School and earned a certificate in drafting. Huey retired from Vector/Schlumberger after serving the company for 30 years. His employment afforded his travel throughout the states and international travel. During this time his friendship was enjoyed with everyone that he met. He was a member of KC Council 7557 in Broussard, LA, Bishop Maurice Schexnayder 4th degree, Sacred Heart Usher Society, Pioneer Oil Member, Shady Pines Hunting Club, Charter member of PooYie and Broussard Community fair. Loving the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife Deanna of 54 years; two daughters, Debra Hebert and her spouse Michael and Danette Bonin and her spouse Tom; his grandsons, David Bonin and Brynan Hebert; granddaughters, Shelby Wardrop and Emily and Camille Bonin and two great granddaughters, Gracie Christine Lamperez and Bailey Laine Trahan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Saul Gabriel Bernard and Agnes Reaux Bernard. His sister Jane Agnes Broussard and a son, Huey J (Bernie) Bernard. Huey battled a paralyzed body for five years. During this time he learned self discipline, not feeling sorry for himself and moved right along with his hobbies and visiting with family and friends. He encountered many situations which family, friends and neighbors were there to help. Pallbearers will be Michael Hebert, Tom Bonin, David Bonin, Richard Domingue, Carl Bell and Monte Bonin. Honorary pallbearer will be David M. Bonin, II. The family request that visitation be held at Delhomme Funeral Home of Broussard on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Cecilia School in Broussard or to Catholic High School in New Iberia. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lafayette General Medical Center, LTAC, Kindred Hospital, Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Center and Mel's Heart of Gold CNAs.
