Jack A. Rutherford

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2022 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Jack Alton Rutherford, 82, who passed onto glory on August 6, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Lafayette. Pastor Todd Menard, Teaching & Missions Pastor of Family Life Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Cherry Grove Baptist Cemetery in Dry Creek, LA. Mr. Rutherford, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Jack Rutherford and the former Jessie Allen. Husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, believer, and blessing to anyone who needed a helping hand. Jack grew up in Oklahoma, where he was a leader in his school, until the oil industry brought his family to New Iberia. He attended and graduated New Iberia High School before entering the Air Force, during the Vietnam era. Jack served in different capacities stateside, until his Honorable discharge to attend and graduate from USL. He then resided in Acadiana over 50 years. Jack worked in sales and communications most of his life. In his early years, Jack worked as an Account Executive for Boy Scouts of America and Motorola. He is remembered most as the General Manager for the first Cellular One in Acadiana, the owner & operator of Professional Communications, and lovingly nick-named “The Beeper Man”. Jack loved playing sports and he played basketball in junior high school. At USL, he lettered in bowling, but also enjoyed playing intramural ping pong and tennis in college. Jack had a very competitive spirit and he loved playing badminton, horseshoes, basketball, baseball, and ping pong with his family, especially his grand-kids and great-grandchildren. In his later years, he received much enjoyment playing tennis with his Beaver Park & his Oakbourne crews. Jack also loved playing golf with his buddies at The Wetlands. His greatest enjoyment was crushing those younger than him in any sport. Jack was very passionate about music; he loved singing out at clubs around town as the famous roadie for his only daughter, Cheryl. Music was always a part of family time. Jack loved helping others, often volunteering for events in our community. Those who knew him well, or ever called upon Jack for assistance, knew the answer was always "Yes". He is survived by his children, Jimmy A. Rutherford and Cheryl R. Dohmann (Richard); granddaughters, Keshia R. Cormier (Chris) and Danielle R. Alleman (Ed); great-grandchildren, Brilyn, Aria, Elora-Kate, Henley, Lionel, Kylie, Sadie, Ashton, "Jinsoo", Chase, and Ellie; sister, Candy R. Cowan (Mel); brothers, Kenny Rutherford (Frances) and Donald Rutherford (Brenda). He was preceded in death by wife of 30 years, Cheryl Simoneaux Rutherford; step-son, Gregory Prejean; parents, Jack and Jessie Rutherford; and brother, Michael Rutherford. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 8:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Danielle R. Alleman, Edward Alleman, Lionel Alleman, Sadie Alleman, Richard Dohmann, and William Perry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rutherford, Don Rutherford, Kenny Rutherford, Ashton Alleman, Jinsoo Alleman, and Chase Alleman. The family would like to thank Lionel Alleman, one of his full-time caregivers, and his "Knight Crew" for the extraordinary support they provided. Also, the family would like to thank the hospice nurses and staff throughout his time of need. Lastly, the family would like to acknowledge Karen, Richard, and Ed for their faithful and compassionate care until the end. Cheryl also wishes to thank his best friends, Russ & Allison, for their love and support for our family during this long journey.
