James Patrick Dugal

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 9, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for James Patrick Dugal, 56, who passed away suddenly over the past weekend. Interment will take place in Bellevue Memorial Cemetery in Opelousas. James Dugal, the son of Paul and Mary Ann Patout Dugal, was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette. He worked for ULL for the past 30 years, the last 8 of which, he served as Director of Computing Support Services. Prior to this position, James served as Associate Director of the Computing Center, Computer Programmer Analyst IV and E.D.P. Systems Analyst II. James graduated from A.I.C. as Valedictorian in 1968. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the National Merit Scholarship Program and received a full scholarship to attend LSU where he majored in Mathematics. He was awarded his Bachelor of Science, graduating Summa Cum Laude, in 1972. After graduation he worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. He then returned to Louisiana and in 1975 earned his Master's Degree in Computer Science from USL. James was a licensed HAM operator and preferred communicating through his radios instead of owning a cell phone. The 'Hamvention' in Dayton, Ohio was a frequent destination for James. He always looked forward to searching out the latest in technologies and other gadgetries while there. He was always ready to help with a computer problem and enjoyed tinkering with both computers and radios. James, an avid reader, enjoyed all different kinds of genre. James liked to hike, camp and spend time with his family and friends. Fluent in both French and Spanish, James traveled abroad, including traveling to France, Spain and Mexico. James possessed an affection for Tabasco sauce (the hotter, the better), spicy foods, and was known to bring excellent wine to meals. James is survived by his parents, Paul and Mary Ann Patout Dugal of Opelousas, his paternal grandmother, Irene B. Dugal of Opelousas, two sisters, Claudia Ann Dugal of Round Rock, Texas and Catherine Lynn Dugal Cahanin and her husband, Lee, of Opelousas and one brother, Mark Owen Dugal of Opelousas. He has one niece, Aimee Cahanin, and three nephews, Eric Cahanin, Charlton Harrison and wife, Liz, and Dimitri Dugal-Hammond. He also has two great nieces, Christa and Stacy Harrison. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Clifford Dugal, and maternal grandparents, Oswell and Claudia Bourque Patout, Sr. James will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited on Friday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kelly Saltzman, Brian Dore', David Spizale, C. J. Legrand, Rendell Bird, and Sam Bullard.
